"In RenalPlus I like the Patient Check Export and patient check list reports, these help me with my contracting. I am moving from our current database onto these for regional activity returns. However, this is only one function and there are many more.
I like the concept of RP - one central database for all users located on a 'server farm' and access via the NHSnet. Developments are managed centrally without having to go from unit to unit. RenalPlus is fast too, faster even than applications on our own hospital intranet!
I like the 'completeness' of the dialysis prescription screens which contain all the information you need to know about a patient’s treatment. It even allows you to view past changes to prescriptions, why they were made and by whom.
The export facility in RenalPlus is extremely useful. It allows you to export data into MS Excel or MS Word to manipulate in any which way you choose both quickly and easily. Compared to other commercial applications, this is a revelation.
RenalPlus is very useful for remote viewing of information. This is particularly helpful at clinical meetings when checking prescriptions, empirical, pathology and other data. Recently we had a query about a patient regularly coming off dialysis well below his target weight. After reviewing the observations, it was possible to quickly prove that this was not the case.
I like the Batch Update facility which allows retrospective entry of data. This lets you get on with urgent clinical work without having to use the computer first. I also like the option of being able to follow a 'process' by using the 'sign on', 'sign off' facility. RenalPlus is very versatile in this respect and will allow it to adapt to any unit.
I like the fact that CHI listen to end users. Our development requests have been incorporated into RenalPlus with more to follow. By virtue of RenalPlus being a 'shared' we also inherit good ideas from other users.
RP is intuitive; it does not require any formal 'training' for people to use it. Anyone familiar with Windows software can get information out of it without any instruction at all. To use it fully and to enter data such as 'batch update' and 'dialysis orders' only requires minimal instruction which normally takes no more then 15 to 20 minutes. Then, because it is intuitive and consistent, users become increasingly adept the more they use it. Once you are familiar with a few key strokes, even the export of whole tables of data takes a few seconds.
The potential to benefit patient care and standards of treatment are significant. At last we have a clinical database which is easy to use, is a repository for important information which is easy to find, has pathology links and probably most importantly, by way of its reporting sections and datasheets of clinical information it gives you information you can act on in order to benefit your patients. All too often we hear accounts of staff putting reams of data into a computer and getting nothing back in return. Not so with RP, you get back much more than you put in.
It was also very helpful for us as new users to be able to export existing data from our old administrative and demographic database into RP. This saved appreciable amounts of time which would otherwise have required weeks of clerical time."
BK– Business Manager.
“Patient details are easily accessible. To change details is easy and straight forward.”
CP - Renal Clerk.
“RenalPlus is simple to use, promotes good communications, provides access to clinical data, from all sites and is a useful teaching tool.
GN – Renal Dietitian.
“In RenalPlus it is very nice to have all relevant information about our patients available on screen. It is good to have recent blood results available and good to be able to see what other health professionals have been involved in the patient's care.”
CL - Renal Dietitian.
“What I like about RenalPlus is the ability to obtain information about patients who are not currently in hospital and to be able to print out TTA’s and a task list for patients prior to starting a ward round”
VF – Ward Doctor.
“I like the way RenalPlus shows me the complete patient history whether it be Drug History or Test Results History. In Clinics the graphs facility allows me to adequately predict when a patient will need dialysis. The Clinic Letters facility completely removes the need for dictation - saving hours of my and my secretary's time.”
SC – Renal Consultant.
“What I like about RenalPlus is its simplicity; being able to modify screens easily, it even calculates wheelchair weight for you.”
CM - HCA.
“I find that RenalPlus cuts out a lot of paper work. Security is a big factor with RenalPlus and confidentiality. It is very convenient and accessible.”
AM – HCA.
“RenalPlus is versatile and is easy to use. It brings together the multidisciplinary team via a computer system. The system interlinks with all the areas and it works very well to produce a very good database.”
GR – IT Analyst/Application Manager.
"I like RenalPlus because it is easy to install, the documentation supplied is easy to follow. There are very few support issues with RenalPlus, those that do arise on rare occasions are usually external connection problems associated with the NHSnet.
Another thing I like about RenalPlus is that the interface is intuitive and end users give positive feedback.
I like the way RenalPlus is delivered by remote desktop access, is a nice thin way to deliver an application “
JE - Senior IT Systems Engineer.
"The new clinic letters facility saves a huge amount of time, RenalPlus will automatically gather all the information required and present the information in a template designed specifically for you. The Medical Secretary still plays an essential role in the process; it is just made less tedious.
“RenalPlus has lots of information and I find the demographics section useful in my job. It also helps to identify types of patients into HD, CAPD, etc which helps me in finding notes. I use the drugs section to ensure I have the correct information in GP letters which I just paste from RenalPlus.”
LC - Medical Secretary.
“RenalPlus is very good indeed and enables us to monitor our patients, control testing schedules and follow them when they move between the different areas of the renal dept.”
SB - Nurse.
“What I like about RenalPlus is being able to find all information needed in one place when planning implementing or evaluating patients care.”
“I like having less paper work to fill in so more time to spend with patients and being able to find all previous dialysis information and observations to assist if a patient is having trouble with fluid, hypo etc.”
DK - Nurse.
“What I like about RenalPlus is the instant access to information about patients when notes are not available out of hours. It makes it easy to review serial blood results and to find out if a patient has been seen by a nephrologist before.
I also like the total control that RenalPlus gives me on all aspects of drugs and am looking forward to the new wireless PC drug round trolley that will allow us to dispense with the unwieldy A3 drug charts.”
AF – Renal Pharmacist.
"For me the best parts of RenalPlus are the optional prescriptive dialysis and care planning and machine scheduling. I am able to send messages with colleagues from all sites without leaving RenalPlus. Patient information and documentation is all stored on RenalPlus and so easily accessible (some areas restricted to certain staff) and I like the fact that all aspects of care are computerised."
SM –Head Nurse/Unit Manager.
"RenalPlus stores all the information regarding dialysis machines and the dialysers themselves. On one occasion it was RenalPlus that showed us that a manufacturer had given us incorrect flow rates.
Because RenalPlus records every dialysis event including what machines were used, it is easy to prevent potential contamination from patients with blood disorders such as haemophilia."
“I find that RenalPlus is easy to access, presents the relevant information in an uncomplicated format. It simply makes life easier”
SC – Transplant Liaison Co-ordinator.
“The things I like in RenalPlus are the access for blood results, how it highlights abnormal results, the EPO prescriber screen and the EPO and iron list for pre-dialysis patients.”
CH - Transplant Sister.
“I like RenalPlus because of its easy access to patient information that is often needed quickly.”
JS –Ward Nurse.
“RenalPlus enables me to perform many tasks, and keep a record of them accurately. It enables me to keep in touch with others around the directorate, and other hospitals. I think the system has developed into an excellent resource facility which many renal units should benefit from.”
SM – Ward Nurse.
